Los Angeles, CA – Few will ever argue that Roman Polanski isn’t one of the greatest directors to ever step behind a camera. Classics such as ‘Rosemary’s Baby’ and ‘Chinatown’ alongside well regarded pictures such as ‘Tess’, ‘Frantic’ and ‘The Pianist’ assured Polanski’s place in film history, firmly settled amongst other greats such as Akira Kurosawa, John Ford, and Stanley Kubrick. For many though it is not his career as a director that most people are interested in, it is his personal life, specifically the ongoing saga of his rape charges stemming from an incident in 1977.

Those charges have comeback to light in recent months when Swiss authorities took the director into custody last September to finally face the charges that he had been avoiding for over thirty years. Now under house arrest, the 76-year old director has been fighting extradition to the United States where it’s believed that authorities will seek harsh punishment, something Polanski is obviously interested in avoiding. Now though new details are starting to emerge as to his desire to have the charges dropped and they relate directly to his desire to return to the United States. Specifically Polanski is interested in returning to the country to see what kind of action he is still able to get.

“Polanski has been talking about this for years and has made a number of gestures to U.S. officials to try and have this resolved. Part of it is that he realizes that his life is starting to wind down and he would rather his career be his legacy than his personal life. He simply wants to end this, but there are other reasons as well,” said a Polanski insider. “Roman really likes American girls, there’s no two ways about it. Sharon Tate was the prototypical American girl and in some ways he has never really let go of her and she has defined the way he views women. It’s been a long time for Roman and he really wants to get back on the horse at least a couple of times before he dies. That’s the real reason he wants to return to the States.”

Polanski has been married to French singer Emmanuelle Seigner, 33 years his junior, since 1989.
“Roman has been sitting on the other side of the Atlantic watching stars like Dakota Fanning, Miley Cyrus, and Selena Gomez rise in popularity and frankly all he can think of is what he is missing. He has always had this longing for the States and seeing young talent like that just makes him nostalgic for the old days, for the days when the world was really his oyster,” continued the insider. “It’s not that the French girls aren’t great, but they just aren’t his thing. American girls have a different kind of zest, a different kind of vibrancy that Roman has always really enjoyed and for that reason along he wants to make it back to the country he loves so much.”The age of consent has not changed in California since 1977.

“I think with his reputation it’s going to be very easy to get the kind of action he is looking for and very challenging to avoid to law. If he can somehow be totally cleared of these charges that might, might, give him a little more freedom to move around but if he is given some kind of probation then his movements will be monitored a little more closely making certain things little more difficult,” said Scrape TV Entertainment analyst Tracey Temple. “The real challenge for him is going to be the age of these stars. Both Gomez and Cyrus turn 18 this year so they are out unless he can get this solved quickly. Dakota Fanning will only be sixteen this year so that’s something, unless that’s a little too old for him.”
Fanning’s sister Elle turns 12 this year.

Joining in on quite the big evening in the Big Apple, Dakota Fanning turned up for the 'Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations' 2012 Costume Institute Gala in New York City. The adorable young actress eased her way through the Metropolitan Museum of Art venue while decked out in a springtime stylish Louis Vuitton gown.

The annual fete finds actress Carey Mulligan acting as honorary co-chair alongside designer Miuccia Prada and US Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour, while Azealia Banks is lined up to perform. As for the celebratory occasion, this year's rendition of the Met gala ushers in the 'Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations' exhibition exploring "the striking affinities between Elsa Schiaparelli and Miuccia Prada, two Italian designers from different eras."

The display is described as being "inspired by Miguel Covarrubias's "Impossible Interviews" for Vanity Fair in the 1930s while featuring "orchestrated conversations between these iconic women to suggest new readings of their most innovative work."

Stepping out to perform her non-Hollywood duties, Dakota Fanning was spotted heading to class at NYU. The "War of the Worlds" starlet looked casual in a cream feather-embellished cardigan, black skinny jeans and sunglasses as she walked the Big Apple sidewalks on her way to the prestigious campus.

In a recent interview with California Style magazine, the 18-year-old actress talked about her college experience, saying, "I’m not going to school for a career. I’m going for my own interest, for myself."Though Dakota started university life last fall at the age of 17, the blonde beauty says that she plans to keep making movies, explaining, "I already know what I want to do forever."Outside of the classroom, you can expect to see Miss Fanning in her newest film, "Effie," which tells the story of teenage bride Effie Gray and her mysterious relationship between Victorian art critic John Ruskin.

Dakota Fanning looked breathtaking in a back baring embellished Prada gown at the 2012 White House Correspondents' Dinner at the Washington Hilton, Washington, DC on Saturday, April 28. The 18-year-old actress was seated at the Huffington Post table alongside Anna Paquin, Stephen Moyer, Darren Criss, Nasim Pedrad, and Daniel Day-Lewis.

Dakota showed her superb sense of style wearing a dramatic silver Grey gown with bold cutout details on the neck and back. The full length slim fit gown featured a plunging V neckline followed by an extensive keyhole detail, three quarter sleeves, cut-out back and short train. She accessorized with metallic silver Giuseppe Zanotti peeptoe heels, silver Prada clutch and two Cartier 'Love' bracelets in her right arm.

Her tresses, with darker tones on roots and honey colored tips, were style with signature middle parting. Her angelic face makeup included subtle cat eyeliner on lids, lashings of mascara, pink lipstick and a swipe of subtle blush. The dinner, which was also attended by President Obama and his wife Michelle Obama, was hosted by Jimmy Kimmel.

Dakota Fanning wears an eye-popping pink Lanvin dress as she arrives at the Vanity Fair Party during the 2012 Tribeca Film Festival held at the State Supreme Courthouse on Tuesday in New York City.
